once upon a time...Posted by Kylie Greenan (Richmond, Australia) on 23 September 2008 in Architecture. Just a note on the Caturday challenge, big cats at a zoo are fine people, what I meant by no "cats in cages" was no image of a cat physically enclosed and confined in a small cage that they cannot really move in as it may be considered cruel and we don't want to be upsetting our cat lovers ;o) © Kylie Greenan Photography 2009

Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesThere'll be leaves on that tree soon. It's spring down your way and fall here. That's a neat old belfry. 23 Sep 2008 5:29am dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesi love this roof structure -- but what is it? a excellent composition with the bare branches reaching in from the left! i am all excited about 'Caturday' though i honestly don't know where my shot will come from -- no cats around me at the moment -- but i do have an idea! yes! :D 23 Sep 2008 5:57am @dj.tigersprout: Thanks DJ :o) Also for the invite btw (you know what this means), very cool my friend, Liners is on now too! This is an old Belfry and it is like a steeple or an old alarm or bell tower, in this case I think it is probbaly used as some sort of ventilator, but I noticed it on an old building here and I was intrigued by the colour and structure. Thanks for your comments my friend! Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceC'est une cheminée ? En tout cas c'est très original comme forme, je n'ai jamais vu cela sur un toit !! 23 Sep 2008 6:13am Rui from Leiria, PortugalOriginal chimney and very well seen. The framing is excellent, with the branches and the roof. Well done Kylie. About Caturday... thanks for the note you dropped me, and of course I will join you. The shape of the 'window' reminds me of a tale from a thousand and one night! 23 Sep 2008 1:20pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesThe green oxidation with the red roof shingles just sing here. 23 Sep 2008 3:54pm Johnnyanne from Layton, UT, United StatesI like this photo. I think the branches in the foreground make the photo more interesting. 23 Sep 2008 6:25pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesThat is a wonderful cupola. Love the patina. As far as cats in cages goes, there are legit reasons to have them contained and it is not cruel at all. It's only cruel to put them in a cage if that s where they live all the time for no reason, although even then, in rescue shelters sometimes there is no other choice unless they are euthanized and most of the shelters I know of are "no kill" so they have to keep them in cages. We also need to put them in carriers/cages when traveling with them in cars, or any other mode, for their own safety as well as our own. Oh and at the vets office it is usually required that cats be contained in a carrier. My cat actually loves her carrier. She will curl up in it on her own if it is left out and the door open. Cats like enclosed places, at least mine does and most of the 10 or so cats I've owned over the years have been fond of small confined spaces to hide in. 23 Sep 2008 6:29pm @Laurie: Laure, I totally agree with you here, and in fact my Belle loves the carrier cage also, but for the purpose of the challenge I have requested that the photograph itself not depict any bars of a cage as some peole find it cruel and sad, and I would like our A-3 Caturday post to be a really exciting one. I hope you will joing us :o) Kylie Marie-Hélène Ammor from Casablanca/Paris, MoroccoVery beautiful composition of the beginning of the story:"once upon a time ..." !! 23 Sep 2008 8:27pm @Marie-Hélène Ammor: We would love to have you as part of the challenge Marie, so just post whatever image you like on your page on the 11th and then link back to my page, it will be wonderful to see the A-3 pages filled with lots of cute kitties, thanks for your comment and for dropping by. :o) peter from new york, United Statessuch a great and interesting pic! i love the color of the rooftop tiles and the way the tree branch almost seems to tickle the chimney : ) 23 Sep 2008 8:42pm jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandBeautiful photo Kylie looks like Caturday is going to be a big one! 23 Sep 2008 9:07pm Andy from United StatesLove the color of the rood and the rust on the steeple in this shot.
