Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesAs classic view of this landmark as you could hope for. That sky is interesting - but flat enough to make the Opera House look three dimensional. Very cool. 2 Aug 2008 5:49am @Stephen Phillips: Thank you Stephen, I really love your comments, always appreciated. djedfre from schaumburg, United Statesgreat shot! the soft lighting give the roof panels a very sail-like appearance (which if i remember correctly was the architect's intention) and the placement of the bridge adds to it as well... 2 Aug 2008 5:59am @djedfre: You are so right DJ, this was the architects intention to have the sail like appearance, thank you for stopping by and for your kind comments. Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesLooks like perfect lighting to me. Great time of day for this beautiful shot. 2 Aug 2008 6:09am @Steve Rice: Thanks so much Steve, I was there for a couple of hours... the light was great, it was bl**dy freezing though, gale force wind, it was quite an experience... I will remember to take gloves next time :o) Thanks for you comments, much appreciated. Brian from Seattle, United StatesSydney Opera House right? Very nice shot, love the lighting here. 2 Aug 2008 6:12am @Brian: Thank you so much Brian, yes the Sydney Opera House and a bit of the harbour bridge, thanks for stopping by and for leaving your thoughts. Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalThis is a great night shot! I loved the composition and color. 2 Aug 2008 6:15am @Ana Lúcia: Thanks so much Ana, always lovely to receive your comments! amy from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaAh, the Opera House and the Hanger... Beautiful light! Excellent framing! 2 Aug 2008 6:22am @amy: Thanks so much Amy... cool you know it as the coat hanger... I thought only the Aussies called it that, thanks for your comments! Vincent Bertrand from Montréal, CanadaExcellent timing between day and night! Ah! the magic hour for night photographers. 2 Aug 2008 7:29am @Vincent Bertrand: Thanks Vincent, yes I know what you mean... it's quite an odd image actually, if you align to the Opera House, then the horizon is out, if you align to the bridge, it throws it out again. I aligned to the opera house (it is floating after all) as it was in the foreground and looked odd being the feature and not straight... thanks for your attention to detail, appreciate your comments. April from Wuhan, Chinawow perfect shot! love the blueness of the sky and the water and how they placed focus unto the opera house. great shot! 2 Aug 2008 7:55am @April: Thank you so much April, I really appreciate your lovely comments. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaWhat a magical look this photo has to it. One day I'll get there. 2 Aug 2008 8:23am @lisa v: Oh.. thanks Lisa, what a lovely thing to say. I hope you get here soon... all I can say is "where the bl**dy hell are ya?" :o) (I do hope you have seen that add). Thanks again. @Nicolas Marguerie: Thanks Nicolas, much appreciated. Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomThe iconic Opera House photographed in the twilight zone ;) 2 Aug 2008 10:05am @Observing: Thank you Observing! Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaSurely a classically beautiful Aussie image. Well taken, Kylie. 2 Aug 2008 10:47am @Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael, I guess being an Aussie, I had to get a shot or two up here of this lovely icon, I appreciate your comments. Nina from Hamburg, GermanyThis is a great point of view and the blue color tones are simply fantastic, Kylie!! 2 Aug 2008 10:52am @Nina: Thanks so much Nina, I have a few similar images in warmer tones but I like the blue colour of this also, it reflects the chill in the air when I took this. Your comments much appreciated. @Jen: Thank you Jen! zOOm from Paris, FranceIt has always been my dream to be there, in front of the opera ! Wonderful night shot ! 2 Aug 2008 1:24pm @zOOm: I hope you make it here one day zOOm to see it in person! Thanks for stopping by! Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesI love your composition ... it truly does the Opera House proud! 2 Aug 2008 1:24pm @Judy: wow, thank you so much Judy, your comments are so kind. papa bear from sydney, AustraliaJust gorgeous Kylie!! I am sure that UTZON the architect, would have had that view and lighting in his mind when he designed the S.O.H all those years ago. 2 Aug 2008 1:39pm @papa bear: Thank you Dad, I appreciate your love, support and enthusiasm so much! Thanks for a lovely day yesterday! Andrew Gould from Sydney, AustraliaThis is really beautiful, Kylie. The light, clarity and composition make this a really outstanding image. Anyone who's tried to photograph the Opera House will know that one of the challenges is to get sufficient detail in the roof tiling, and you've done it here. By the way, doesn't our 40D perform well at 500 ISO... 2 Aug 2008 2:15pm @Andrew Gould: Thank you Andrew, such lovely comments, I am touched. The Canon 40D, yeah, what a pearler.... as someone very new to photography said to me this week... "what a great piece of image taking machinery" :o) Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, CanadaThat must be the perfect time to shoot the Opera House. The natural light and the artificial light are in wonderful balance. 2 Aug 2008 2:53pm @Michael Rawluk: Thanks Michael, it did seem like a great time, I have some lovely images with the very rich sunset colours behind the Opera House, but it didn't show the beauty of the subject without its light on :o) Thanks for stopping by to comment. Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesIn the twilight the details are so impressive ... really a beautiful sight ... from this angle even the "coat hanger" looks 3-D ... very impressive! 2 Aug 2008 3:32pm @Ron: Thank so much Ron! Great comments, thanks for your time here to leave them. Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainI like very much this "postcard". Well made, nice colors and the last sun on the building it's a great point for the photo. 2 Aug 2008 4:45pm @Paco Díaz: Thank you Paco! @Cia: Many thanks Cia! Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesAhhhh home... that shot alone is making me homesick... great shot... 3 Aug 2008 12:16am @Fliss: ohhh Fliss, well it's not going anywhere, hope you get back soon :o) thanks for stopping by. linerberry from New ZealandStunning shot Kylie. Lighting is perfect and shuch wonderful blues!!! I love this building, I know this building well, cuz I'm an architect. hope someday have a chance to take a shot!!!!!!!!! :( 4 Aug 2008 9:52am Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanSomeone told me once that the best night photography is done at TWILIGHT, not in the full darkness of the night.Well, I'd say twilight and nighttime are two different situations....and you're just showing us the difference with these 2 postings. It is true that the shapely architecture of the roof is beautifully contoured here. 5 Aug 2008 12:17am @Japanalia: Thank you Japanalia, I spent a couple of hours photographing the bridge in different light, it seemed that just before and then twilight were the best shots, some on sunset were great also, but the light on the opera house weren't on and the image looked flat. Thanks for your time in stopping by and leaving your comments, much appreciated! |
